It started with laps at the pool and late-night conversations over grading papers. Discover how a chance meeting turned into an inseparable bond, culminating in a beautiful July proposal in her favorite place in the world.
We met in September of 2022, on the pool deck of the Spring Valley YMCA. I had just returned to PA from my summer in Avalon, NJ, ready to jump back into Master’s training. Matt was a brand new face in the pool, and immediately a cute one. We swam (raced) next to each other for every practice following, and would chat after practice (mostly me complaining about work and him listening).
On our first “date”, he invited me over to help me grade papers and watch tv. We did just that for hours, and I ended up staying at his house until 2am. Our first kiss was in the cold, in the middle of the night, after he walked me to my car that night. I fell in love right then and there. From that point on, we were inseparable. Our love grew, though both of us were scared to say the words too early. They did finally come though, on December 10, 2022, after our first official date, in the car at a red light. I waited until the next red light to say it back. Then, he asked me to be his girlfriend in the parking lot for dinner with my parents.
In July of 2023, my family moved to Missouri, and I stayed in PA. Matt was there for every second that my heart broke staying behind. He took on the role of my protector, and moved in with me shortly after. I could never imagine not waking up with him. We knew from the moment we met that we would live this life together.
Matt proposed in my favorite place, on July 20, 2025. It was the most perfect moment of our lives, and we are beyond excited for what’s to come. Envisioning our life together brings love, joy, family, and of course, swimming.
